The Sidhe

Monrachy - Sidhe thumbnails

It’s been a wee while since I’ve posted anything, thought it was about time to share some stuff I’d been working on. These are some more concept sketches for Oliver Piotrowski for his online game Monarchy. I’d previously designed some vampires characters.

These characters are elven in design, and very magic oriented. I wanted to stay away from the usual clothing that elves are depicted with in a bid to make their appearance look a bit more unique. I felt my initial attempts made them a little too druidic looking, so I decided to try out a more ’emo’ feel to them. I’d also played around with giving them tattoos and markings with a triangular theme, but again I thought this made them a little too scholarly. Instead I kept the triangle theme and adapted it into their outfits, to try to give them a little consistency in their clothing.

There are five troop types in total, and I’ve already inked up three, so I’ll wait until I’ve finished the other two before I post them up.

Vikings!

I haven’t been getting around to posting much recently, been a bit busy with one thing and another, but here’s a few preliminary sketches I did for Richard Eddon over at The Hairy Painter. I can’t say too much about them just at the minute, maybe later. I hadn’t really studied vikings much from the point of view of creating character sketches, so it was fun doing a bit of research on armour and weapons. And no Vikings rarely, if at all, wore horns on their helmets!

Davy’s Cow

Davy's Cow

Here’s a little sketch commission for a mate, who wanted a drawing of a cow for his niece, I think. So here it is. A mixture of Watercolour and watercolour pencils. I gave it a bit of a levels tweak in PS too, just for good measure.

Prince of Persia

Jack Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia.

I’m running short on blue pencil lead which is a shame, I’m going to have to resort back to grainy, normal lead soon if I don’t get round to getting a new supply!

Hayley Westenra

Hayley Westenra

Here’s a new sketch, haven’t had much of a chance to do as many recently.
Hayley Westenra, great voice, one of my Dad’s favourite singers. This one took a little longer than the rest, since I was trying to be a bit more delicate with her features.

I’m really liking using the blue lead for sketching with, I like the slightly waxy feel on the paper, plus on the practical side, it doesn’t seem to smudge as much as ordinary pencil.

Lemmy

Lemmy from Motörhead.
Not quite so happy about this one, but hey, it was just a quick sketch!

Keira Knightley in King Arthur, not sure I quite got her face right.
I need to practice my clothing and costumes more too, so thought I’d have a go at this.

Haven’t done a Lord of the Rings sketch in a while, here’s a Gimli!

I got some Derwent Watercolour Pencils at Christmas, thought I’d try them out in my moleskin. Here’s a quick sketch of my mate Steve. He doesn’t have the beard anymore!

And saying as it’s Andy Warhol season at The Mac at the mo, here’s a little play in Photoshop as a tribute.
